Gang-bangers, grandmas, and white boys from Idaho.

DannyThe gospel is going forth in the south Seattle Metro in an amazing way at Taproot Church. As we’ve been working our way through the various facets of the glorious good news of Jesus Christ’s life, death, burial, and resurrection He has been drawing the most unlikely crowd through your missionary endeavors.
On any given Sunday morning our little sanctuary is bursting out it’s seams with the most eclectic crowd one could imagine.
The back rows are filled up with little prayer power houses, i.e. the grandmas of Taproot as we affectionately call them. With ear plugs in to protect what’s left of their hearing they watch the next generation of the church fill up the front rows with smiles on their faces and prayers in their hearts.
Sitting next to the polished and clean cut Boeing engineer is a rather large and intimidating ex-gangbanger, covered in tattoos, who is holding back tears mid sermon as he realizes Christ was punished in his place. This fatherless son has found a family and his Daddy. His brother next to him was raised in a different world, lives in a different space, yet they are one in their Father together, forgiven in Christ together.
There’s an eighteen year old virgin. She’s fought the pressure and is committed to holding out for her husband. In the seat behind her is a stripper. Fresh out of jail, she’s tired of it, she’s surrendering. Each of these daughters are pure in the blood of their Bridegroom.
There’s a 22 year old guy with Bible open whose satisfying his hunger for theology by devouring Calvin, Lewis, Luther, and Edwards comfortably sitting next to a woman who is holding a Bible in her hands for the very first time.
There is an entire row of Cambodians, they can’t understand a word of the sermon yet, they just know the pastor throws his hands around a lot, is very passionate about whatever he’s saying, and that this church is mercifully helping them get a home! They aren’t hearing the gospel, they are seeing and experiencing it without words, beyond the language barrier.
And the diversity, and beauty of a gospel centered, Spirit led community grows in it’s kaleidoscopic complexity and with every twist and turn dazzles the soul and delights the heart.
I’m the white kid from Idaho. I’ve got the best seat in the house, up front. Every Sunday I see Jesus building His church, drawing from every tribe, tongue, and nation. I get to see Jesus crushing cultural divides, stereotypes, racism, prejudice, and fear. Sunday after Sunday and through the week I’m seeing Jesus build a missionary momentum that is unstoppable.
Just wanted to share my joy with you all and continue to encourage you. As you go about this day for the glory of God never allow the standards of society, the statistics on paper, or the supposed impossibilities in front of you stop you from believing and seeing Jesus do more then you could ever think or imagine!

Cheri ChristensenI am so excited for what is to come at this new church of ours. Jesus has amazing power!! Much thanks to you Pastor Danny for what we are hearing every Sunday so we can go gospel the people along our paths. I have been attending another church for two years now and never much felt the need to talk about church after church was over. Since coming to Taproot I feel it hard to NOT talk about church, Jesus, the sermon, and the pastor at taproot, although I hear your cautions about not making it about you but about Jesus, to a non believer or an unsure person you are someone they can see and hear until they have found Jesus. And what a great job you are doing for and with Jesus on all of our hearts.

JuddWhat grace, honor, and most of all love Jesus has lavished upon us as a body of believers. It’s so fulfilling to be apart of something bigger than myself and more importantly that being the Kingdom of God. I think everyone can say that it is nothing that we have done to see such a diversity of sinners come to faith Jesus, it truly is being built upon Jesus!

Darren WalshI’ve never been to your church (live in West Seattle), but have listened to the podcasts from since the time that Pastor Danny has joined Taproot.
God has blessed you with a Pastor who is able to equip the Saints with good doctrine while ripping open your heart so it bleeds for people who don’t know Jesus.
Congratulations on going to two services and I pray that those open seats will be filled with new Christians who will in-turn lead others to Christ!

Becky FriddellI was raised in “Church” church. By that I mean church stayed at the church site. Whatever went on there never came home and changed my family. As I grew up I started doubting what I saw as being real Christianity. I am not even sure I was saved although I said the sinner’s prayer a lot (as kids do). Long story short and by the grace of the Savior that is no longer the case. I thank God for Taproot and what the Spirit is unveiling there. I can’t wait to get there and I can’t wait to see what God will do next!

Jason DesLongchampAnd I’m the European blend from Seatac. I’m excited to see the grab bag of souls that the Father is drawing to this tiny slice of the church global known as Taproot. I’m the kind of guy who gets real touchy when people start talking about the importance of diversity, but economic and racial diversity in a church really does point to a Higher Power organizing things behind the scenes, so for that I’m thankful.
