What matters most

JimIf we study the Book of Acts, we are temped to try to glean the principles, strategies, methods, etc that the early church used in spreading the Gospel. It is astonishing to note that the Apostle Paul (with his team) managed to establish local churches in four regions of the Roman Empire in a mere ten years. These churches went on to thrive and spread the Gospel even after Paul left. We want to know how he did it. However, in the search Acts for clues, we must not over look the character of the early Christians. They were committed to Jesus. They were willing to be sent anywhere the Holy Spirit directed. They gathered together for fasting and prayer. They took opportunities presented to them. They endured persecution, hardships, and loss of many things to follow Jesus. Commitment is not a guarantee that God will use us. The Lord will even use those that hate Him if it serves His purpose. However, there was something so compelling about Jesus that inspired total commitment out of the early church. They were so busy loving Jesus that nothing else really mattered.
